Preface:
Keeping in line with our Vision 2030, we have identified a few key focus areas for the University which will help us reach our destination faster. While we intend to undertake this journey towards our vision, we will make sure that these focus areas are addressed during the various plans and activities we undertake. This growth shall be happening organically and we shall ensure to carefully tread each step for the achievement of excellence in that domain with the involvement of the youth and encourage them to innovate continuously. While the youth is killing themselves, they shall be motivated to become job creators and not only job seekers and contribute to society and mankind immensely.
Priorities 2020-2025:
Centre for South and South-East Asian Studies:
The prominence of India in the South Asian Region and its role in the Geopolitics of the region require research support to sustain its influence in the region. Further North East India is exposed to international boundaries making it convenient to open up new avenues for social reach out. The University has been trying to reach out to the South and South-East Asian Universities through a meaningful association as a part of regional cooperation. The proposed centre for South and South-East Asian studies will research various socio-political issues of the region to strengthen regional cooperation and Economic growth.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Programme:
Growing interest worldwide in artificial intelligence fuelled by large datasets and advances in computing power has been an impetus to the University to initiate a Post Graduate programme in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning by 2025.
Herbal Products:
Development of Herbal products as nutraceuticals and medicines for ensuring better health for people of the region will be initiated by 2025. It is expected that around 5 products will be developed and tested by 2030.
Organic Agriculture and Food Research & Production
The organic food market stood at 110.25 billion USD in 2016 which is likely to grow to 262.85 billion USD in 2022. Growing demand for organic food, it has become important for agriculture dominated North East India to standardise organic cultivation by understanding the low input response. With the increase in awareness, the production of healthy and nutritious food products to keep pace with the rising demand will be the area of focus during the next decade.
Research Outcome:
To ensure better research outcomes which will be reflected in the publication of the high impact factor journals, the university sets a target of 2200 quality research papers by 2025.
Academic and Professional Outcome:
The University feels that the success of an institute depends on how the students qualified for the institution are professionally placed. The University sets a target of placing 100 qualified students in civil services by 2025 over and above formal placements in industry and Government services.
Visit of Nobel Laureates:
The University believes that the inspiration and motivation of students and teachers can bring significant growth for the institution. Visits of Nobel Laureates to the institution will be an impetus for success. The University will ensure the visit of 5 Nobel Laureates by 2025.
Patent Registration:
Innovation is the key to the economic growth of the nation. The University proposes to bring innovation to the forefront by registering 25 patents by 2025.
Development of Science Village:
Promoting science through familiarising the young generation with scientific phenomena is one of the few important objectives of the University. To achieve this objective a Science Village will be established on the campus where students from all levels will be exposed to the latest scientific developments to generate interest.
Mission School:
A school will be established on the campus to accommodate children of neighbouring areas as well as the children of employees to a high standard of education at a low cost.
Health Education with Super Speciality Hospital:
A Medical College with a Super Speciality Hospital will be established on the campus. This Medical Complex will not only cater to the need of this region, but it will also be a health destination of South East Asia. It will emphasize Research in frontier areas of Medical Science.
Priorities 2025-2030:
Drug Discovery Research:
North East India is rich in plant biodiversity. Large plant resources have been used traditionally in the region for tackling various diseases for a long time. This empirical knowledge can be used in identifying active molecules from plant resources for treating various diseases. The University situated amid biodiversity proposes to undertake Comprehensive Drug Discovery Research by 2030. The areas of focus will be cancer and fungal diseases.
Climate Research:
Climate change issues in recent years have received special attention because of their impact on agriculture and the environment. Climate is the primary determinant of productivity which is impacting food production across the globe. Given the variation of crop behaviour resulting in changes in climatic variables, it is important to develop adaptation and mitigation strategies. The University proposes to initiate climate research programmes within 2022 to develop strategies for adaptation and mitigation and to draw required climatic models.
Energy Research:
The development of advanced knowledge in the existing practices in the industry for energy-efficient systems will continue to be in demand. Energy for non-conventional sources will be explored. Interdisciplinary, multi-institutional cooperation will be ensured during the next five years for non-conventional and clean energy.
