Awareness on Ethical Use of Internet Applications
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, October 31, 2023: In commemoration of National Internet Day, the Department of Computer Science, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya organized an awareness program on the “Ethical Utilization of Internet Applications” for the children of St. Francis D’Assisi Senior Secondary School in Baridua 9th Mile yesterday. Students from the Department organized a quiz competition for the children, with attractive prizes awarded to participants. A total of 76 students of higher secondary class attended the event and engaged in the various activities making it a grand success.
Addressing the children, Dr. Bhairab Sarma, Head of the Computer Science Department of USTM said that the internet has evolved into an intangible yet integral aspect of our daily lives. Our interconnectedness has reached unprecedented levels, affording us instant access to a wealth of global information. With a simple click, we can establish connections with individuals across the globe. Sharma underscored the paramount importance of practicing caution as the initial step when venturing into the online realm. He also stressed the significance of adhering to best practices when utilizing the internet.
Mr. Jay Krishna Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, USTM, elaborated on the recommended online conduct and the range of activities available on the internet that individuals should consider engaging in.
The program featured an interactive session that offered valuable insights into the dos and don’ts of online behavior, emphasizing precautionary measures for safe and ethical online interactions. The principal of St. Francis D’Assisi Senior Secondary School felicitated the resource persons from USTM.
