USTM releases Sociology books authored by students
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, September 27, 2023: The Department of Sociology at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya, marked a significant milestone in academia with the release of two important books on Sunday, 25th September. The books, titled “Livelihood through organic farming in Mulieh, Meghalaya” and “Impact of Over The Top (OTT) Platforms on Youths,” were unveiled during a ceremony attended by esteemed dignitaries.
The event was graced by the presence of Padma Shri Ms. Trinity Saioo and Prof. GD Sharma, the Vice-Chancellor of USTM. Notably, two of the authors of these insightful books are students from the Department of Sociology at USTM.
The book on “Livelihood through organic farming in Mulieh, Meghalaya” is dedicated to Padma Shri Ms. Trinity Saioo, a symbol of inspiration in Meghalaya. The authors of this work are Ms. Priscila Saioo, who completed her MA in Sociology at the Department of Sociology, USTM in 2023, along with Dr. Nazia Parveen from the same department, and Prof. Abdul Matin, a retired professor from the Department of Sociology at Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, UP.
The second book on “Impact of Over The Top (OTT) Platforms on Youths” has been dedicated to teachers and students. The book addresses a timely and relevant subject. Dr. Nazia Parveen, a faculty member from the Department of Sociology at USTM, co-authored this book with Moitrayee Ghosh, a Gold Medalist from the Department of Sociology, USTM in 2023, and Prof. Abdul Matin.
During the book release event, Prof. GD Sharma, VC, USTM, commended the faculty and student authors for their significant contributions to the field of sociology and encouraged the department to continue producing such insightful publications in the future. The gathering also had the privilege of hearing from Padma Shri Ms. Trinity Saioo and the student authors themselves.
