Workshop on Legal Research Methodology and Quality Paper Publication
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, 24th February 2024: The University School of Law & Research, USTM organized a workshop on the topic ‘Legal Research Methodology and Quality Paper Publication’ here today. The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Chintamani Rout, Department of Law, NEHU, Prof. (Dr.) Subhram Rajkhowa (USLR), Prof. (Dr.) Baharul Islam (Dean. USLR), Dr. Mridula Devi (Associate Professor, USLR), Dr. Anurekha Goswami (Associate Professor, USLR), the students and the faculty members of USLR.
The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role of legal research and the different methodologies involved in conducting good research. The event commenced with the welcome speech by Mr. Abdul Wadud SK, Assistant Professor, USLR setting the tone of the workshop.
Prof. (Dr.) Chintamani Rout of the Department of Law, NEHU was the chief speaker of the workshop. Prof. Rout started his speech by emphasizing how equipping oneself with knowledge becomes quintessential to any kind of research; reading newspapers being the first step. He stated that to conduct any kind of research, let alone legal research there should exist a yearning to learn new things and that only with such an inquisitive mind one could identify the problems around and conduct research to bring about solutions. He further asserted that knowing about the legal system, the different legal institutions, the different law commissions, and the legislation is the key to conducting a good research. Highlighting the methodologies of legal research, Prof. Rout stated that the Empirical Method of research is paramount to legal research as it provides a practical aspect that adds to the wholesomeness of the research. He also shed light on many current issues of the legal system keeping the audience enthralled.
Dr. Subhram Rajkhowa, Professor, USLR in his thought-provoking speech delved into the importance of research. He stated that research is necessary in every aspect of life and its importance can never be disregarded. He stated that ideal research puts across a message, a solution. The Workshop concluded with the offering of vote of thanks by, Dr. Anurekha Goswami Associate Professor, USLR, USTM.
